Career Paths in the Indian Navy

The Navy offers various ways to serve the nation, both as an officer and a sailor. Here’s how you can join:

Officer Entry Schemes

  • National Defence Academy (NDA): 10+2 with Physics & Math. NDA exam by UPSC + SSB Interview.
  • Combined Defence Services (CDS): For graduates. Requires CDS exam + SSB Interview.
  • Direct Entry for Graduates: Engineering/Law/Other fields via SSC or PC.
  • University Entry Scheme (UES): For final/pre-final year engineering students.

Sailor Entry Schemes

  • Artificer Apprentice (AA): 10+2 Science; technical training provided.
  • Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR): 10+2 Science; naval operations training.
  • Matric Recruit (MR): 10th pass; cook, steward, etc.
  • Non-Matric Recruit (NMR): Minimum 6th grade pass.

Specialized Branches

  • Submarine Branch: Operate underwater vessels with specialized training.
  • Aviation Branch: Roles like pilot, observer, or ground crew for naval aircraft.

Selection Process at UCI

  • Written Exam: Math, English & GK based on entry level.
  • SSB Interview: For officers; tests leadership and aptitude.
  • Medical Fitness Test: Physical & medical standard check.
  • Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Running, sit-ups, push-ups.
  • Merit List & Final Selection: Based on overall performance.
